A beautiful cat I bonded with in front of the Temple of Zeus, one of the best things about Athens was the cats roaming around!
All from the Acropolis
Changing of the Guard Ceremony
Wow Greece, definitely an interesting city to explore and I was glad this time we had two full days! We stayed in the area called Spata , which was nice our air Bnb was up on a hill and there was a bus stop and grocery stops nearby. So we could take the bus to the train station (you can buy an all day metro pass for 8 euros!) and it was about 15-20 minutes to Athens ! If you’re ever there get off at the stop Syntagma Square, there’s a lot to do and see within walking distance of that area.
You can walk to the Temple of Zeus, Acropolis, theres museums like the Benaki which is pictured above , also the Parliament (which on Sunday at 11 am they have the changing of the guard which I got to see!) and plenty of restaurants and more sights!
Our first day in Greece we spent most of it in the Acropolis , it’s very beautiful to see , definitely required a lot of walking and up hills but once you get to the top you can see all of Greece ! Plus the history of all the different parts of the Acropolis , there’s stadiums, monuments and theaters where there were shows, fights and more that happened. I wish could remember everything our tour guide was saying but even if I could explain , hopefully you get the opportunity to learn and see the history of the area yourself ! It was worth the climb even though it was painful on the legs ! Also there were cats!
I was bummed because we didn’t make it to the temple of Zeus , it was pretty early in the day but for some reason it was closed. But I met this amazing black and white cat who was so friendly! I know it seems lame but I love animals and was so excited about meeting one who climbed onto my lap and fell asleep.
The rest of the day was pretty chill , we found some shops to buy souvenirs, found an Asian restaurant ( besides McDonald’s these were like in every country)
to eat and it took us awhile to figure out how to get home cause it was a few trains and a bus ride home. But we made it ! We actually ended up taking a taxi from the train station and it was cheap !
Our last day I enjoyed Athens on my own , I went to Syntagma square where they had the changing of the guard ceremony , the guards were dressed in interesting outfits ! They did the ceremony in front of the parliament and they marched out into the streets afterwards. I managed to find a neat little shop where I got a few food items for 5 euros ! Depending on which place you pick , the fancier ones are more expensive but for the most part a lot of the food and things we bought were cheap in price !
Then I found a museum to explore , it was a coin museum , it was pretty interesting , I forgot the name but I think it was only 3 or 4 euros to get in ! I went to the Benaki Museum as well , this one was bigger like 4 floors and was more interesting it displayed a lot of clothing and sculptures ! It was around 10-15 euros to get in , but I think if you’re 22 and younger or a student you get in for free !
The last part of my solo journey I ended up back at Syntagma square to a performance, there were some dancers performing and I watched for a bit before heading back home.
Overall Athens was a rich city full of culture and history , and I would definitely recommend someone visiting ! In Sha Allah you get the chance !
