Alarm in Afghanistan: The Terror Rages On
Asalam alaykum loves! We made it through day 19 and 20 of Ramadan, this post is a day late, but you know we out here, trying our best, better late than never! I will be posting twice actually, to make up for missing Friday/Saturday, I hope the last ten days of Ramadan are beneficial and filled with reward and worship! May we obtain the reward of Layl Tul Qadr!
Abu Hurayrah raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu (may Allāh be pleased with him) relates that the Prophet ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Whoever stands (in the voluntary night prayer of) Ramadan out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven. And whoever spends the night of Lailat Al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.” [Sunan an-Nasa’i]
Aisha raḍyAllāhu ‘anha (may Allāh be pleased with her) reported: I asked: “O Messenger of Allah! If I realize Lailat-ul-Qadr (Night of Decree), what should I supplicate in it?” He ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) replied, “You should supplicate: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me).” [At-Tirmidhi].
So I want to continue to shed light on countries in crisis, it helps us become aware of the situations in other parts of the world, that need our attention, prayers and donations. Today I wanted to discuss what is going on in Afghanistan.
Now trying to keep up with the long complicated history of Afghanistan is difficult it would definitely take me days or even weeks to fully understand but I do know after 9/11/2001, the US and Britain has had an involvement in attacks to stop the extremist group the Taliban.
Also I know people may think that the Taliban is extreme because of Islam but that is not the case. I personally refuse to associate them with Islam because my religion would never tell us to do any of the heinous and violent things they have done to themselves and others.
It is always sad to see innocent people stuck in the middle of the war they did not cause or have anything to do with. The people suffering the most are the civilians of Afghanistan. It is Ramadan and yet there are still bombings and killings happening during this spiritual month.
The president earlier in May did call for a truce/ceasefire during Ramadan but the Taliban refused. They accuse the Afghan government of being controlled by the United States.
Not too long after this the Taliban strikes on may 8th, killing 5 people and injuring 24 others in a suicide attack. It happened near the headquarters of Counterpart International where 5 gunmen charged and fought with soldiers for more than six hours. More than 200 employees had to be evacuated during this attack. The supposed attack was due to the Taliban disliking the Counterpart organization promoting women and men working together.
WHO KILLS PEOPLE OVER THAT. Not a valid reason to kill anyone. SMH
Surah Al-Ma-idah, 32: Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors.
“Today’s attack particularly deplorable, hitting civilians helping Afghans & taking place during Ramadan,” the UN said on Twitter.
According to a report by The Guardian, the Afghan army is also responsible for more deaths than the Taliban during the first months of 2019. The army killed six people in night raids looking for rebels, the family was in a car and it was assumed they were members of the Taliban. On top of the family, 10 soldiers were also killed.
"The head of the UN mission in Afghanistan said on Saturday that he was concerned about the heavy toll on civilians during the holy month of Ramadan and urged both sides to do more to protect them."
On top of all this, a Mosque was attacked during Friday prayer killing two people, among them an Imam (Mawlavi Samiullah Rayhan) who was leading the prayer and injuring 16 others, some who were said to be in critical condition.
May Allah have mercy on his soul, forgive his sins and grant him the highest of Jennah.
"The 36-year-old cleric was a staunch supporter of the Afghan government and national security forces battling Taliban insurgents. Rayhan also was the host of a daily religious television show and was highly critical of the Taliban for orchestrating suicide bombings in violation of Islamic teachings."
So these constant attacks affect the civilians, 42% of the nation's population lives in poverty. More than 50% of children under age 5 are malnourished.
According to the World Health Organization, there were 34 reported attacks on healthcare facilities in the first quarter of 2019, killing at least nine workers and patients and causing the closure of at least 87 medical facilities.
It is time we take a stand and action for our brothers and sisters in Afghanistan.
