Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and How He Treated Women
I attended a halal a few months ago and it was one of my favorites because we talked about how the Prophet (Peace be upon him) treated children and women. I took notes so that is why is doesn't flow evenly!
If more people followed his examples in regards to his treatment towards others, we would have less domestic and child abuse ! May Allah protect women, children and all vulnerable people!
There was no intimidation in his features , he was approachable , gentle and soft, he had a bright face and it made everybody come to him.
He had no time to himself, everyone would come to him for everything. Mothers, children, love struck teenagers. Bedouins would jump off their horses , grab him by his collar and he would still smile. The Prophet SAW never put labels on anyone , robbers that hijacked caravans gave themselves a lowly label , but he told them no they are the noble and honorable people because he saw them struggling to become better. He said they are always welcome in his Ummah.
There was a drunk companion with his sword in the Battle of Uhud. Someone tried to curse this man, the Prophet SAW told Umar don’t dare you curse this man , whatever you feel about him keep it to yourself. The Prophet SAW will testify on his behalf that he believed in Allah and the Prophet SAW.
We should not put labels on others, we don’t know how much they give in charity, how they treat their parents, if they pray Qiyam or not.
The Prophet SAW did Janazah for a boy's bird , he was empathetic, talking about things about the bird, like happy memories , he prayed for the bird. Anas said he has never seen someone so amazing with women and children than the Prophet SAW.
The wife and husband are coverings to each other , just like clothing covers scars, hair and blemishes , spouses cover each other’s weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Those that are in your proximity all the time , get a front row seat to all of your state of minds and struggles.
The daughter of Abssinyan man went to meet with the Prophet SAW , it was a serious meeting and the daughter was running around. The dad was becoming frustrated with her , you are of no importance , you’re bothering us , go away. The Prophet SAW was reading emotions in room , he pauses the conversation and tells the man to wait, tells daughter to come here. She was 3-4 years old , he tells her she has a beautiful dress , strokes her hair , even though he doesn’t know abssinyan language , tells her in broken Abssinyan language , Sana Sana which means pretty pretty. He was laughing and humbling himself, which made her feel wanted since father was shooing her away.
Prophet SAW smiled at every child , there was nothing softer than his palm. Anas ibn Malik, would hold Prophets hands, would be in the battle fields , he worked hard manual labor , iron , sweep , and picked up huge boulders. Anas never smelt anything so beautiful not even musk or perfume could compete , he was in his service for ten years , not once did he ever say oof to me. He had attitude with Prophet when he told him to do something, Prophet never questioned when he didn’t do something out of disobedience.
Prophet SAW once told him to get a jug of water, Anas got distracted, and started playing with other children, he was gone for hours. Prophet SAW came outside looking for him and was laughing and asked him what he was doing , didn’t yell at him.
A young teenage boy who had girl issues, who had courage and trust in Prophet SAW, who as approachable, soft and had no judgement. He told him he met with a girl in a garden and kissed and fondled and did everything except Zina. He told him do with me as you please, confessing to him, Prophet SAW doesn’t know what to do ,walked away, boy runs after him and keeps telling him. The boy eventually gives up and goes home.
Later, in Surah Hud , a verse is revealed “ So establish prayer at both ends of the day, and in the early hours of the night, Surely good deeds erases bad deeds, this is a reminder for those who are merciful.”
Prophet SAW tells Umar to find the boy , they find him and the Prophet tells him this verse , and he does not question him or judge him.
Prophet came at a time when women were viewed as property. Baby girls were buried alive, when women deliver babies , they may not get to hold their baby, the baby girl may be killed right away. There was no technology to find out the gender of baby , a girl's worth was nothing, she was traded like property , she was looked at as financial burden, as worthless.
And if the girl that was buried alive was asked , she would be asked what reason she was killed, as a means of justice , give her her worth, her voice.
Allah will give them a microphone on the day of judgement , this should scare people who devalue women , scare fathers into ensuring you can’t dismiss women , or think that they have no value.
Prophet SAW says any father that raises two daughters , values them , doesn’t hurt their feelings , respects them and marries to them to good people , they will be with him , like two fingers close together.
Peoples mindsets shifted , men who didn’t want to have daughters, now people wanted to have daughters , because it will grant them paradise.
Your gateway to mercy and Jennah is treating women well , Prophet Muhammad changed how women were viewed in society.
Allah says not disrespect or belittle women, they have equal rights to you (men).
Prophet Muhammad SAW said when you are buying gifts for your children , buy for girl children first. He understood women are sensitive and emotional and would want to be thought of first , he knew they get jealous.
In the midst of battle , Aisha RA realizes necklace is missing, her mother gifted her a precious necklace. She tells her husband, Prophet SAW, while in the middle leading an army. She feels comfortable to tell him that she needs to find her necklace even though they are in the middle of dessert. There is no water , lives are in jeopardy but out of care of her and love for her, he told the whole army to stop. Thousands of men stopped , parked their camels and looked for necklace in the sand. Prophet SAW thought that if this is important to you , it’s important to me. The companions put pressure on Abu Bukr , Aisha’s father, to ask Prophet SAW stop looking. They spent hours looking, they found the necklace underneath the camels belly. After this incident, it was revealed that it was okay to make wudu without water, and use the sand to pray , all of the companions were grateful for this revelation because of Aisha looking for necklace.
Aisha felt comfortable with the Prophet SAW even if they were fighting , even if they had financial difficulties. She feels safe to hide behind him to protect her.
Prophet Muhammad SAW said when a boy is born , he brings Nur (light), when a girl is born , she brings two Nur , because we also bring light to the world and create children.
Prophet Muhammad SAW, when he greeted his daughter Fatima , kissed both her cheeks, kissed her hand, and hugged her. He would take her and put her in the seat he was sitting in, he made the time precious with her , he made the time count.
When women were widows , those who came from low economic areas , he was available to them. He would go to another city and help them take care of their affairs. He would take extra time for those who had no family, divorced and widowed , and listened to their questions more.
He listened to a woman complain about her husband , he listened to her until the end.
Prophet Muhammad SAW honored women in their intellect as well, he gave the order to shave off their heads to the men companions and they did not do it. He goes to consult Umm Salman , told her the companions are not listening, they don’t usually do this. She told him if he shaved his head first , that they would follow his example, so he did so and the companions listened.
Prophet SAW honored the beginning of his journey of Islam with Khadija, whom he honored and trusted , ended his journey of Islam and his life with Aisha Radi Allahu Anha, always chose women to share important moments.
When he had his last breath , he had limited words. Even the United Nations is trying to fulfill what the Prophet SAW mentioned in his speech. He wanted to make sure when he left that he enforced until his last breath that women were taken care of.
He broke every single stereotype , mentioned women at every moment , professed his love for his wife when people dare not do that in public.
