Breast Cancer Awareness
Another topic that is important to be educated on is breast cancer. It affects both men and women and it is important for us to be doing self evaluations to notice any warning signs. You should be looking for lumps, discharge, or any other abnormalities. See a doctor right away if something doesn't look right.
How To Perform A Self Exam!
There are a lot of myths surrounding breast cancer, it affects about 1 in 8 women but also about 2,190 men a year are diagnosed. The mortality rate is higher among men since awareness isn’t common and they’re less likely to seek treatment.
Also if you find a lump on your breast it doesn’t necessitate breast cancer , 9 out of 10 times it’s not cancer. It’s also a myth that just because a family member has had breast cancer it means you will develop it. It does put you at a higher risk and means you should be checked more frequently but only 10% of cases are women with a family history of it. A lot of women have no history of it in their family so that just means we need to all be checking!

My heart goes out to any survivors, any families affected by a loss of a family member or friend to any form of cancer, it’s painful, it’s heartbreaking, but we are strong and tough and we will get through this together ✊🏾
I feel like as women especially we place so much value on our bodies especially our breasts . If a woman doesn’t have much or she’s had to get a mastectomy she feels less of a woman. Our breasts don’t make us women, you’re a woman because God created you that way. You’re beautiful no matter if you have small, big or no breasts because your value isn’t placed on your appearance 💜
