Black Lives Matter: Collection of Poems

Asalam alaykum loves ! Here’s some poetry I’ve written 💕

I am brown skinned

From the tips of my toes to the top of my head

Chocolate Moca frappe

Caramel candy coated

Hersey wrapped kisses

Brown hot sand and dirt covering the Earth

Sun kissed gold

This is my skin that they fear .

This is my skin they say is “suspicious”.

This is my skin they say “go back to your country”

This is my skin that will never change.

Your Silence...

your silence is deafening.

Can you hear my screams ?

your silence is deafening.

Can you hear my cries ?

your silence is deafening.

Can you hear my pain ?

your silence is deafening.

Can you hear the gunshots ?

your silence is deafening.

Mama I can’t breathe!

your silence is deafening.

They killed him. They killed her. They killed them.

your silence is deafening.

They watched her die. They watched him die. They hit him. They punched her. They kicked him. They beat them. They shot him.

your silence is deafening.

their blood ran into the streets. Their mothers cried , their sons and daughters asked where is my daddy ? Where is my mommy? Come home !

your silence is deafening.

Do you hear us chant in the streets ? Do you hear us call for justice ? Do you see the people say “Stop Killing Me!” ?

your silence is deafening.

They pushed you to to the ground. They hit you with a baton. They gassed you in your face. They shot you in your back. They hit you with a car. They told you to shut up and go home.

All while you protested peacefully.

your silence is deafening.

Did you watch while people hurt me ? Did you watch while people killed me? Did you watch while people told me my skin color is not worthy ?

Your silence is deafening.

Your silence killed me.

My Existence

my existence is resistance.

Because not only do you fear my skin

But the religion I believe in.

You have already decided I am guilty guilty guilty. Death sentence. No fair trial or jury.

I bleed the same blood as you , I cry the same tears as you , I walk the same ground as you.

George Floyd

Breanna Taylor

Ahmed Abury

Philando Castile

Jamar Clark

Michael Brown

So many names. So many lives. So many futures.

Another hashtag. Another call for justice. Another time for us to scream and yell ,

Hands up ! Don’t shoot !

Is my life not worthy ?

Mama I can’t breathe .

They are killing me .

Tamar Rice.

A young boy who’s only crime was being black while playing with a toy.

The system failed you.

They protect those who murder and those who rape ; but when it’s a black boy, or black girl ; they throw you down and shoot where you stand.

Mama I can’t breathe.

Mama I can’t breathe.

They are killing me.

How can I be peaceful ?

When I walk in the streets, my skin is a threat , they are afraid of me, when I walk these streets saying please don’t kill me; they look at me and tell me just don’t resist.

But even when I comply , I am met with a shot to the eye. I am met with a knee to my throat. I am met with violence.

Mama I can’t breathe.

They came for me, they will come for you, they will come for us all.

I can’t breathe.
