Ramadan Break?
Asalam alaykum ! Hey y'all!
So there's been an interesting change to me today, I am unable to fast! It sucks because I was actually pretty disappointed because when I took on the challenge of blogging everyday in Ramadan I hadn't anticipated this happening. I was worried because if I am not fasting can I talk about something interesting to write about for 3-5 days?
If you're a Muslim woman you probably already understand why I can't fast. And if you're a guy and don't like hearing about what happens to the female body every month, then you may not want to read ahead. I am not about to get into details but I know some people are squeamish.
So if you haven't figured it out already, yes I got my period. Dun Dun Dunnn...
I remember having a conversation with my roommate yesterday about this and she had asked me if women fast on their period and I had told her no, fasting is not meant to harm your body. If you are ill, elderly, on your period, breastfeeding or pregnant you are not required to fast. You can makeup your fast if you are able to when you are strong again or you can give charity or feed the poor or hungry.
So yeah the reason I was surprised because for me, I usually get my time of the month at the end of the month which technically it is the end of the month since June starts this Thursday. Although when it comes to Ramadan Auntie Flo appears within the last ten days or not at all. Which may sound weird, but every woman's body is different and reacts differently to changes such as fasting. Fasting will affect my body by skipping my time of the month once or a few times.
It is actually nice when it doesn't happen because for me that means less fasts to have to makeup later on. But I have to be positive and see this as a learning opportunity to show you guys that there is still worship and opportunities I can partake in during Ramadan even though I cant fast for the time being.
So if you are around family members who are fasting, try your best not to eat in front of them not because you have to be ashamed or hide that you aren't fasting. (I say this because I think Muslim women often tend to be shy about letting others know or showing that they cant fast or pray, when it reality it happens we don't have to be afraid, we should be normal about it, this is how Allah created us and He did not require us to pray or fast while on our periods). I say it because I know when I am fasting it makes it hard when people are eating around me.
Another thing you can do is still participate in verbal prayers meaning you don't physically pray 5 times a day like we do everyday, but saying verbal prayers like praising God or asking for things you desire or to help those in need.
You aren't supposed to touch the Quran, the Holy Book of Muslims, because you are bleeding and aren't clean (by the way this isn't to mean women on their period are unclean, anyone who is not clean shouldn't be touching the words of God) but you can still listen to Quran or even read the words on your phone or any device.
You can still do good deeds and donate charity! Despite not being able to pray or fast, don't think you cant participate in the spirit and rewards of Ramadan! Keep doing you boo, still continue in helping others and getting those blessings from Allah In Sha Allah!
Until tomorrow...
