Spain- Barcelona & Cordoba

Wow wow it’s been awhile ! We are coming to an end to my adventures abroad , or at least the retelling of what happened when I was abroad. Spain by far had to have been my favorite place to visit, we actually spent four days there and let me tell you the beginning was a struggle ! So when we landed in Spain, we basically had like 45 minutes to get from the airport to the bus station to get to another city called Granada . Not the local bus station , it’s basically like the Spain Version of Greyhound, where you can be taken from city to city or state or state st a cheaper price than flying. So we ran to find a taxi , who he didn’t speak English (duh we are in Spain the language is Spanish, my four years of Spanish classes did not come in handy). So we showed him the address of the bus station , snd we take off. When we get to the bus station and we ask around which terminal or area to find our bus we quickly find out we are at the wrong bus station and have run out of time to go to the right bus station. So either we showed him the wrong address or this was a mix up of where he should drop us off.

So now we had to figure out what to do and where to stay since we had an air Bnb booked in Granada and the tickets to go to Granada weren’t until the next day and were more expensive. Not to mention it was like a 9 hour bus ride there and so it would take a full day for us to get there we wouldn’t have two full days to explore and have fun. So in the end we ending up going to find dinner and decided to stay in Barcelona. I booked a new air Bnb. Oh did I forget to mention that it was Christmas Eve ? So I booked this place and the host didn’t answer but we figured we would just show up and she would be there. FAT CHANCE. We take an Uber there and wander around to find the right apartment and asking people to use their phones to call the host. We didn’t get an answer so we ended up finding a hotel for the night. I stayed up with air Bnb customer service and they refunded me for the payment towards the host that didn’t answer. I kept asking around and found a place for us to stay the next day, it was in the Catalonia Square La Rambla area. And the next morning we went there after packing up and eating breakfast nearby. I remember that first night we didn’t do much exploring until later that evening , our area was pretty lively , you could walk to everything , and in the square there were people selling things from key chains, shoes, pants and jerseys. After exploring our area we found a movie theater where we watched a movie in Spanish called Sobre Ruedas. Even though we didn’t understand everything it was still fun and you could figure out the plot !

The next day we went to this huge church called La Sagrada Familia. We ended up eating at this restaurant (where I accidentally ordered too much food but it was cool the rest ended up being my dinner) like a Spanish Omlette, Nachos and Churos con chocolate! The portions were bigger than i expected that’s why I ordered more food than I should’ve. We didn’t end up going inside the Sagrada Familia because of the cost of the tickets but it was an amazing view outside.

Afterwards we went to the Park Guell, which was a exhausting hike but with the view cause you saw the whole city. After you reach the highest point there’s more interesting sculptures, buildings and people selling scarves and other trinkets on the sidelines. We had another bus to catch to go to our final city in Spain which is Córdoba , we had to head back to our place and pack and make sure this time we ended up at the right train station!

Now I think I mentioned this before but the more that you bring with you the more difficult it is to keep track of your things because of all the transitions you’re making and places you’re staying. I was blessed to have only lost key chains I bought and some food I had planned to eat on the bus ride. But someone I traveled with left something more valuable on one of the buses to Córdoba. We had to switch buses halfway in between us going there and when you’re in a rush things get left behind. May Allah keep you and your belongings safe when you travel !

So we rode the bus all night from Barcelona to Cardoba which is nice because we ended up mostly sleeping (uncomfortably but that’s what happens being on a bus a whole night) and when we made it to Córdoba the next morning we only had a 15 minute walk to our place from the bus station. We found lunch , I remember it was this interesting cold soup with bread our waitress recommended which was alright but it was cold outside too ! The place we were staying luckily had heat and it was nice because we had the whole apartment to ourselves ! I think by the time we settled in , we were exhausted from not sleeping well on the bus so we ended up napping. Finding dinner was an adventure but when we finally did it was delicious ! I’m actually hungry now and would totally go get that food if I were in Córdoba.

The next day we planned to visit the Mosque Cathedral of Córdoba , which used to be a Mosque but was turned into a cathedral. It was only ten euros to get inside and it was definitely breathtaking the inside . You could definitely see the Islamic architecture but there was the newer catholic influence and decorations. We also spent some time at the Roman Bridge and Torre de Calahorra. There was a palace nearby but we didn’t go outside but just being able to see the outside was amazing. The pictures in Spain are basically better than any other country I visited so please enjoy !

See you on my next post and safe travels❤️
