Advice about the Last Ten Days of Ramadan

Asalam alaylum loves, we are nearing the last ten days of Ramadan, May Allah continue to put baraqah in our time and allow us to make it through these days in worship, gratitude and in doing good deeds! Here are some tips to maximize the last ten days to get as much as reward as possible!

“With the start of the last ten days of Ramadan, the Prophet (PBUH) used to tighten his waist belt (i.e. work hard) and used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers” (Sahih Muslim 2024)

“The Prophet (PBUH) used to strive hard (in worship) in the last ten nights of Ramadan as he never did at any other time.” (Sahih Muslim, 7:1767)

1) Attend more Taraweeh prayers if you can! Me personally it is not always easy to get to the Masjid because of transportation, but I am going to try to go on the weekends, and pray more at home! If you are able to stay at the Masjid and after Taraweeh read Quran and then pray Tahajud and Fajr at the Masjid, In Sha Allah you would get more reward then!

"The Prophet would perform I'tikaf during the last ten (days) of Ramadan until Allah took him." (Al-Tirmidhi 790)

2) Give more in Zakat, if you can, as Muslims we are supposed to pay Zakat Al Fitr before or on the day of Eid Al Fitr, give it your family if you have any that are in need and also to Masjids, the poor, the sick and the orphans! May Allah accept it from us!

3) Read about the Surah Al Qadr, the tafsir or explanation of the verses to get a better understanding of the power of this night. The night is most likely on one of the odd numbered nights, so try to up your worship on these days and be hopeful for seeking the Reward of Layl Tul Qadr!

97:1- "Indeed, We sent the Qur'an down during the Night of Decree."

97:2- "And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree?"

97:3- "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months."

97:4- "The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter."

97:5- "The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter."

4) Make as much dua as possible! The dua of the fasting person is usually more accepted and especially in the ten nights there is even more reward so if you haven't make a list and make dua for family, friends, the Ummah and those who are sick, suffering and in need!

He (Abu Hurayrah) said: We said: “O Messenger of Allah, tell us about Paradise, what is it built of?” He said: “Bricks of gold and bricks of silver; its mortar is musk, its pebbles are pearls and rubies, its soil is saffron. Whoever enters it will be joyous and will never be sad, he will abide therein forever and never die. His clothes will never wear out, and his youth will never fade. There are three whose dua will not be rejected: a just ruler, a fasting person until he breaks the fast, and the prayer of the one who has been wronged. It is borne on the clouds, and the gates of heaven are opened for it, and the Lord - may He be glorified and exalted - says: ‘By My glory, I will grant you help even if it is after some time.’”
Reported in Musnad Ahmad (ibn Hanbal) #8030 and classified Saheeh by Shuayb al-Arnaoot in Tahqeeq al-Musnad.

5) Continuously ask for forgiveness, we want to be among those who enter into Jennah Tul Furdaus and we cannot to do unless we are cleaned of our sins. If you have slipped up this Ramadan and fallen into as sin that you have tried hard to avoid, it is not too late to repent.

  • Rabbanaa faghfir lana thunoobana wa kaffir 'anna sayyiaatinaa wa tawaffanaa ma 'al abraar.
Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and efface our bad deeds and take our souls in the company of the righteous (Quran 3:193).
  • Rabbana thalamnaa anfusanaa wa illam taghfir lanaa wa tar hamnaa lanakoo nunna meen al khasireen.
Our Lord! We have sinned against ourselves and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost.
  • Rabbanagh firlanaa wa li ikhwaa ninallatheena sabaqoonaa bil eemani wa la taj'al fee quloobinaa ghillall lillatheena aamanoo rabbanaa innaka raoofur raheem.
Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful (Quran 59:10).
  • Rabbanagh firlana thunoobana wa israfana fee amrina wa thabbit aqdaa mana wan surna alal qawmil kafireeen.
Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and the lack of moderation in our doings, and make firm our steps and succor us against those who deny the truth (Quran 3:147).

May Allah make these last few days of Ramadan beneficial and supportive for us, May we make it to next Ramadan and May we grow stronger in our connection to Allah and what pleases Allah!
