Reflection on Verses Al Imraan

Asalam alaykum! Day six of Ramadan, MashAllah Allahumma Barik! May Allah continue to make this month of worship, prayer and blessings easy for us! I hope that Allah forgives your sins and accepts your good deeds.  When it becomes difficult remember that Allah does not burden a soul more than it can bear, you are CAPABLE and STRONG and YOU CAN DO THIS.

I was thinking the other day my boss at work how she didn't understand that I was able to do a lot of work despite it being Ramadan and that if it were her she would be sluggish and exhausted. I told her I actually feel blessed because I work an office job therefore a lot of my work is done sitting down. I cannot imagine doing a job where you have to life heavy things or push yourself physically. Even as a mom, I feel like it would be tough juggling home and kid duties while fasting! There was a summer I worked at a Camp outdoors, in the heat for 8 hours, I remember how tough it was for me then. So Alhumdilah for the ease and support I receive at my job, it is definitely something I have taken for granted, how fasting can be easy when you are not required to be in a stressful and high paced environment !

It also comes to mind that the first week of Ramadan may require more effort because we are not used to going majority of the day without food or water. Surprisingly as time goes on your body gets used to it and even after Ramadan ends you find yourself not eating as much! I have tried to follow the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)'s example and only eat when I am hungry or drink water instead so I don't eat as much throughout the day! Also when you are focused on work, school, or family duties you tend to forget about being hungry or thirsty. And lastly the reason many who do not practice Islam may not understand, is we have Allah on our side! My grandma always told me when I was fasting and I felt weak or tired, to ask Allah to take the hunger away, if you are sincere and your intention is right, Allah will make it easy!

Moving on to the verses that stood out to me in Surah Tul Imraan:

3:144- Muhammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allah at all; but Allah will reward the grateful.

3:145-And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allah at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And we will reward the grateful.

3:185- Every soul will taste death, and you will only be given your [full] compensation on the Day of Resurrection. So he who is drawn away from the Fire and admitted to Paradise has attained [his desire]. And what is the life of this world except the enjoyment of delusion.

3: 186You will surely be tested in your possessions and in yourselves. And you will surely hear from those who were given the Scripture before you and from those who associate others with Allah much abuse. But if you are patient and fear Allah - indeed, that is of the matters [worthy] of determination.

Verse 144 stood out to me because we know that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) was the best of mankind, a example for us to follow and was sent to us as the final Messenger to all humans to teach us Islam. He himself was human, and just like previous messengers and all living things, he passed on and someday so will we. This verse is saying that will people stop practicing and become disbelievers because the Beloved Messenger (Peace Be Upon is Him). The Prophets are not God, they are here sent by Allah as a guidance and for us to love and take as an example but they will not live forever. Allah is eternal, He will not die, He will always exit, He created everything, He has been there since the beginning and will be here in the end. I like this verse because it differentiates us from other religions, we do not worship a human or believe that a God has or will ever be in the form of a human. So I think that is beautiful that this shows us Allah comes first before the Prophets. Messenger or angels or any other creation.

Verse 145 tells us that we will die except for when Allah has decreed us to. This verse helped me realize that sometime I look at celebrities who seem to have everything, the finest homes, clothes and being able to travel, to remember they may have the money and what appears to be the best things in life, that is because as this verse states, they desire the jewels of this life. But this life is temporary, so if you think about it, if you desire the reward and the best in the afterlife, which is forever, that is a the better offer of the two. The verse ends by saying Allah reward the grateful, so In Sha Allah we will be rewarded for being thankful and content with what we are blessed with.

Verse 185 tells us that every soul shall taste death, no one will escape death, even if they are cremated and spread across oceans, forests and hidden away where others can't find it. We can take care of our health and use anti aging treatments, but once our time is up, its up. On the Day we are all resurrected, everyone will get the justice they deserve or receive consequences for the wrong they have done to others.  It tells us that if we are to go towards Paradise, to do things in this life that will help us go towards that path, is it the ultimate desire over things that will push us towards the Hellfire. This life is only a delusion of enjoyment, it does not mean everything, what we experience here will not be forever.

Verse 186 reminds us we will be tested by the things we own, which could mean we could be tested with wealth, worldly possessions and people. We will be tested within ourselves which to me could mean our own desires, our souls and urges to do good and bad in the world. There will be people who have received the message we have and those who prescribe partners to Allah who will say hateful things to use and try to harm us, but if we are patient and determined, that is the best for us.

May Allah give us the best in this life and the hereafter, protect us from the delusion of this worldly life, to help us work towards Paradise, protect us from those who want to destroy Muslims and defame Islam, May we think often of Allah and ask of His forgiveness, and help us to be grateful and content with what we have!
