The Prophet's (Peace Be Upon Him) Speech, Joking and Smiling

Asalam alaykum loves! I hope you are all in the best state of Eman and Health! I attended a halaqa two weeks ago, and I think others can benefit from what I learned and it is good to pass on your knowledge! We are covering the Shamail of the Prophet Muhammed Salahuu Alayhi Wasalam, which is his characteristics, attributes and lifestyle. This time we were talking about how he spoke, when he would joke with others and about his habit of smiling.

My notes are all over the place but hopefully you can understand them! It definitely makes you love the Prophet Salahuu Alayhi Wasalam once you hear about these habits or things he did! Alhumdilah

Prophets Speech “ His words flowed forth like a perfect string of pearls” Um Mad

Perfect medium, break speech to joke around with children, broken Abssiyinan , change speech based on who he was talking to , versatility in speech

“The speech of Rasullah was not quick and continuous like that of yours. He spoke clearly, Word for word. A person sitting in his company could remember what he said.”

“Rasulullah would repeat words three times so that they would be remembered”

Anas said he would not once raise his voice in front of me , never saw him or show signs of getting angry. Anas was a small child and the Prophet (peace be upon Him) watched over him and would tell him to do a task and Anas would go play with friends and forget to what he was asked

“He was prolonged in silence, not speaking except out of necessity, magnifying the blessing, even if it was restricted, he wouldn’t belittle any of it.”

He was okay with silence , contemplative, whatever he said was always necessary to hear , not beating around bush , positive to hear, optimistic.

Prophet Esa (Jesus) said when I leave do not grieve , there is someone more important that will come after me.

When Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him), when saw injustice , one thing that made him angry, triggered and frustrated, or if Allah’s rights were being transgressed, ignored his ego, when he was slandered, walked by if nothing happened, if injustice to others his face would become red , face the justice until it is rectified.

Not to point, hold out your palm towards someone, this is the Sunnah, pointing generally, if he was amazed at something, he would overturn it, not make it a big deal, would use his right palm and cup it into his left thumb

Prophet Musa had a speech impediment , stutter, didn’t speak native tongue , hesitation, dialect not same as main language,

Prophet Shuab- so eloquent and proficient , words so sophisticated, people couldn’t understand , too smart in language

“I have not seen anyone who smiled more than The Messenger of Allah.”

Grace in the way he smiled , smiled when he laughed, he would always be smiling even during battle, people felt that they could approach him, children felt like they could climb on his back.

Benefits of Smiling: Improved mood , boosts self esteem, lower blood pressure,

Someone (Abdul bin Salam) converted to Islam based on Prophet Muhammad smiling , knew it was someone who would not lie.

Aschwitz, Germany, a Jewish woman used to smile at her neighbor often; was rounded up to go into gas chamber, man that decided whether people live or die was the neighbor, he let her go because she smiled often.

Jokes were always truthful.

Woman asked him make dua for her to enter Jennah, he told her an old woman cannot enter Jennah, she started crying and almost left, he stopped her and told her , that when people enter Jennah they will all be young.

She felt better knowing she will enter Jennah young and beautiful.

Made sure whoever he joked with was okay and comfortable when they left, feel empowered.

He would not joke in a demeaning way of his enemies.

Shakura- being in a constant state of thankfulness

“Smiling is like emotional WiFi” - Yasir Birjas

Prophet Salahuu Alayhi Wasalam would spend night in worship even though his sins were forgiven, wanted to be a thankful Slave,

He would pray some nights Tahajuud at the Masjid and some at home so he did not make the companions feel like it was mandatory.

He did not impose his level of religiosity on others.
